Originally intended to be a group of games involving the games we now know as Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Type-0, Final Fantasy Versus has now rumoured to be finally canned.
Many fans will have already given up on the title after numerous no-shows at big industry events and a whole six years since it was announced and all we have is a trailer, some gameplay and some screenshots. You'd think after six years there would be at least a demo of sorts.
Nowadays Square Enix are always the butt of jokes about long development cycles and sub-par RPG games. Seems like we're relying on their Eidos side to provide the goods - probably the best investment Square Enix have made in a long time: looking forward to Hitman Absolution and the new Tomb Raider origins game.
A part of me realises that if the game were cancelled it would be for the best, it can never live up to the 6 years of expectation and hype so even if it were released it would be a shadow of what everyone wanted it to be. But the fan in me still wants the game, prays that it will make a surprise showing in the next few months.
If it's not an official confirmation - I won't believe it.
UPDATE: According to Andriasang, Square Enix are set to reveal future developments on their Final Fantasy XIII project at a stage show celebrating their 25th anniversary for their long-running series. This will take place in Shibuya during 31st August - 2nd September.
No explicit mention of anything Versus related but FFXIII-3 might be on the cards seeing as we're going to be seeing more of "Lightning's Saga".
Fingers crossed!
